World’s largest Cadbury Mini egg weighs as much as an emu

Cadbury World, the chocolate-themed attraction in Bournville, England, has unveiled a new Easter marvel: the world’s largest Cadbury Mini Egg, weighing as much as an emu. This colossal confectionery creation, dubbed the Mega Mini Egg, is a testament to the dedication and skill of its creators, chocolatiers Claire Fielding, Dawn Jenks, and Donna Pitt, who spent two days crafting the giant egg entirely by hand.

The Mega Mini Egg stands 27.5 inches tall and weighs a staggering 121 pounds, making it a true spectacle of chocolate artistry. Its pastel pink sugar coating and crisp shell, adorned with subtle speckles, pay homage to the classic Cadbury Mini Egg while scaling it up to an extraordinary size. Cadbury chocolatier Claire Fielding expressed her excitement about the project, stating, “Cadbury Mini Eggs are another absolute favourite and a British Easter staple, so creating the Mega Mini Egg felt like the perfect next challenge. We took that instantly recognisable shell and chocolate centre and scaled it up into a real showstopper. It’s been so rewarding seeing it come to life, and we can’t wait for visitors to come and see it in person this Easter.”

The Mega Mini Egg is currently on display in the Chocolate Making area at Cadbury World, located about 100 miles northwest of London. As visitors admire this giant egg, they might wonder about the sheer scale of chocolate involved. Even if one were able to take a bite out of this enormous piece of candy, it would take an incredible amount of chocolate to reach a toxic level for an adult human. Research suggests that a person weighing 165 pounds would need to consume 75,000 milligrams of chocolate to reach a toxic threshold. Translating this into familiar chocolate products, such a consumption would equate to:

- 711 regular-sized Hershey’s milk chocolate bars

- 7,084 Hershey chocolate kisses

- 332 standard-sized Hershey’s dark chocolate bars

Needless to say, reaching such a chocolate critical mass would likely result in nausea long before posing a serious threat.

The Mega Mini Egg serves as a delightful reminder of the love and care that go into creating these iconic chocolate treats. As Easter approaches, visitors to Cadbury World will have the opportunity to marvel at this extraordinary creation, celebrating the enduring popularity of Cadbury Mini Eggs and the ingenuity of its chocolatiers.

A simple way to get more value from metrics
A simple way to get more value from metrics
We spent one day 1 building a system that immediately found a mid 7 figure optimization (which ended up shipping). In the first year, we shipped mid 8 figures per year worth of cost savings as a result. The key feature this system introduces is the ability to query metrics data across all hosts and all services and over any period of time (since inception), so we've called it LongTermMetrics (LTM) internally since I like boring, descriptive, names. This got started when I was looking for a starter project that would both help me understand the Twitter infra stack and also have some easily quantifiable value. Andy Wilcox suggested looking at JVM survivor space utilization for some large services. If you're not familiar with what survivor space is, you can think of it as a configurable, fixed-size buffer, in the JVM (at least if you use the GC algorithm that's default at Twitter). At the time, if you looked at a random large services, you'd usually find that either: The buffer was too small, resulting in poor performance, sometimes catastrophically poor when under high load. The buffer was too large, resulting in wasted memory, i.e., wasted money. But instead of looking at random services, there's no fundamental reason that we shouldn't be able to query all services and get a list of which services have room for improvement in their configuration, sorted by performance degradation or cost savings. And if we write that query for JVM survivor space, this also

The number of options we have to configure and enrich a coding agent’s context has exploded over the past few months. Claude Code is leading the charge with innovations in this space, but other coding assistants are quickly following suit. Does feeding less protein to cows over a longer period not only reduce nitrogen losses, but also affect methane emissions?
