Vigilant Aerospace installs FlightHorizon TEMPO ATM system at Oklahoma Air, Space Port

Vigilant Aerospace has recently installed its FlightHorizon TEMPO airspace management system at the Oklahoma Air & Space Port in western Oklahoma. This installation is a critical component of a project undertaken for the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA) to establish a national testing site and operating launchpad for both military and civilian autonomous aircraft and spacecraft. The project, awarded in early 2025 as a multi-year agreement, involves the deployment of Vigilant Aerospace's FlightHorizon system to support the development and testing of advanced uncrewed aircraft, autonomous spacecraft, and operational flights.

The FlightHorizon TEMPO system incorporates multiple long-range radars and transponder receivers, enabling comprehensive airspace management capabilities. One of the primary objectives of this system is to protect small aircraft and helicopters in the area without the need for chase planes to monitor every drone. By integrating and managing multiple mobile airspace surveillance radars, the system ensures that it can track aircraft across thousands of square kilometers around the airport during the flight of high-speed military drones and autonomous spacecraft, which are expected to launch later this year.

A key feature of the FlightHorizon TEMPO system is its automatic detect-and-avoid collision avoidance services. These services provide real-time traffic display and detailed traffic logging and reporting, ensuring that the airspace is managed efficiently and safely. This is particularly important given the increasing number of autonomous aircraft and spacecraft expected to operate in the region.

The installation of the FlightHorizon TEMPO system is a significant milestone in Oklahoma's efforts to advance the autonomous aircraft and spacecraft industry, both within the state and nationwide. Doug Wood, State Manager for Advanced Air Mobility at ODAA, highlighted the importance of this project in building the infrastructure required for a national proving ground for long-distance, autonomous flight testing. He noted that FlightHorizon offers a robust traffic management system that is standards-based, multi-sensor-ready, and capable of growing with future military, cargo UAS, and air taxi operations.

Kraettli L. Epperson, Chief Executive Officer of Vigilant Aerospace, emphasized the broader impact of this project for the state. The deployment of the FlightHorizon system not only enhances airspace management capabilities but also creates new opportunities for economic growth and innovation in Oklahoma. As the autonomous aircraft and spacecraft industry continues to evolve, the state's investment in cutting-edge airspace management technologies like FlightHorizon TEMPO positions it at the forefront of this rapidly developing field.

In conclusion, the installation of Vigilant Aerospace's FlightHorizon TEMPO airspace management system at the Oklahoma Air & Space Port marks a significant step forward in the development of a national testing site for autonomous aircraft and spacecraft. By providing advanced air traffic management capabilities, the system ensures the safe and efficient operation of high-speed drones and autonomous spacecraft, while also fostering the growth of the autonomous aircraft and spacecraft industry in Oklahoma and beyond.

A simple way to get more value from metrics
A simple way to get more value from metrics
We spent one day 1 building a system that immediately found a mid 7 figure optimization (which ended up shipping). In the first year, we shipped mid 8 figures per year worth of cost savings as a result. The key feature this system introduces is the ability to query metrics data across all hosts and all services and over any period of time (since inception), so we've called it LongTermMetrics (LTM) internally since I like boring, descriptive, names. This got started when I was looking for a starter project that would both help me understand the Twitter infra stack and also have some easily quantifiable value. Andy Wilcox suggested looking at JVM survivor space utilization for some large services. If you're not familiar with what survivor space is, you can think of it as a configurable, fixed-size buffer, in the JVM (at least if you use the GC algorithm that's default at Twitter). At the time, if you looked at a random large services, you'd usually find that either: The buffer was too small, resulting in poor performance, sometimes catastrophically poor when under high load. The buffer was too large, resulting in wasted memory, i.e., wasted money. But instead of looking at random services, there's no fundamental reason that we shouldn't be able to query all services and get a list of which services have room for improvement in their configuration, sorted by performance degradation or cost savings. And if we write that query for JVM survivor space, this also

Context Engineering for Coding Agents
The number of options we have to configure and enrich a coding agent’s context has exploded over the past few months. Claude Code is leading the charge with innovations in this space, but other coding assistants are quickly following suit. Powerful context engineering is becoming a huge part of the developer experience of these tools. Birgitta Böckeler explains the current state of context configuration features, using Claude Code as an example. moreтАж

What does less protein and nitrogen mean for methane?
Does feeding less protein to cows over a longer period not only reduce nitrogen losses, but also affect methane emissions? Researchers at Wageningen University & Research (WUR) investigated this in a multi-year study with dairy cows, funded by the Vereniging Diervoederonderzoek Nederland (VDN), the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN), and […] The post What does less protein and nitrogen mean for methane? appeared first on Agriland.ie .
