Trump calls Artemis II astronauts "modern-day pioneers" in live conversation

President Donald Trump recently highlighted the groundbreaking achievements of NASA's Artemis II mission crew, calling them "modern-day pioneers" in a live conversation. The astronauts, who recently completed a historic voyage around the moon, received praise from the president for their remarkable journey and the inspiration they have provided to the world.

The Artemis II mission, which took place earlier this month, marked a significant milestone in space exploration. The crew, consisting of experienced astronauts, successfully orbited the moon in a spacecraft designed to test the technology needed for future manned missions to the lunar surface. This mission was a critical step in NASA's plan to return humans to the moon by 2024 as part of the Artemis program.

During the brief chat with President Trump, the astronauts shared their experiences and emotions from the mission. They described the awe-inspiring view of Earth from the moon and the sense of accomplishment that came from completing such a challenging task. The president, in turn, congratulated the crew and emphasized the importance of their mission in inspiring the next generation of explorers and scientists.

Trump's comments came as the world continues to marvel at the feats achieved by the Artemis II crew. The mission's success has been widely covered by media outlets around the globe, highlighting the collaborative efforts of NASA, international space agencies, and private companies in advancing space exploration. The voyage around the moon also underscored the importance of continued investment in space research, particularly in the context of global competition and the pursuit of new technological advancements.

In addition to praising the astronauts, President Trump also discussed the broader implications of the Artemis II mission. He noted that the crew's achievements serve as a reminder of the United States' leadership in space exploration and its commitment to pushing the boundaries of human knowledge and capability. The president's remarks were seen as a nod to the importance of space exploration in fostering innovation and inspiring young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The Artemis II mission has been hailed as a testament to the power of human ingenuity and the potential for collaboration between governments and private entities in achieving ambitious goals. As the world looks towards the future of space exploration, the success of this mission has reignited public interest and demonstrated the importance of continued investment in space research.

In conclusion, President Trump's praise for the Artemis II astronauts highlights the profound impact of their historic voyage on the global stage. The crew's journey not only showcases the incredible technological advancements made by NASA and its partners but also inspires a new generation of explorers and dreamers. As the world continues to watch with anticipation for the next milestones in space exploration, the Artemis II mission serves as a powerful reminder of the limitless potential of human achievement.

A simple way to get more value from metrics
A simple way to get more value from metrics
We spent one day 1 building a system that immediately found a mid 7 figure optimization (which ended up shipping). In the first year, we shipped mid 8 figures per year worth of cost savings as a result. The key feature this system introduces is the ability to query metrics data across all hosts and all services and over any period of time (since inception), so we've called it LongTermMetrics (LTM) internally since I like boring, descriptive, names. This got started when I was looking for a starter project that would both help me understand the Twitter infra stack and also have some easily quantifiable value. Andy Wilcox suggested looking at JVM survivor space utilization for some large services. If you're not familiar with what survivor space is, you can think of it as a configurable, fixed-size buffer, in the JVM (at least if you use the GC algorithm that's default at Twitter). At the time, if you looked at a random large services, you'd usually find that either: The buffer was too small, resulting in poor performance, sometimes catastrophically poor when under high load. The buffer was too large, resulting in wasted memory, i.e., wasted money. But instead of looking at random services, there's no fundamental reason that we shouldn't be able to query all services and get a list of which services have room for improvement in their configuration, sorted by performance degradation or cost savings. And if we write that query for JVM survivor space, this also

The number of options we have to configure and enrich a coding agent’s context has exploded over the past few months. Claude Code is leading the charge with innovations in this space, but other coding assistants are quickly following suit.
