The Peninsula Hong Kong has unveiled its 2026 "Art in Resonance" program, featuring three site-specific installations by artists Dr. William Lim, Angel Hui, and Albert Yonathan Setywan. This initiative underscores the hotel group's commitment to contributing to the cultural fabric of the cities where they operate. As Denis Brunet, Global Vice President of Brand, Content, and Social Marketing at The Peninsula Hotels, explained during the program's launch, the exhibits are not just for guests but for the public at large, and are free to access in the hotel's public spaces.
For The Peninsula Hotels, art is not merely an aesthetic addition to their hospitality offerings; it is an integral part of their brand identity. Instead of merely lending their walls to galleries, the hotel group commissions immersive, often large-scale works that are integrated into the hotel's architecture, lobbies, and public spaces. This ensures that art is encountered by visitors throughout their stay, becoming an essential part of the overall experience.
This year's "Art in Resonance" program marks the eighth installation at The Peninsula Hong Kong, and it aligns with the city's art week and the local edition of Art Basel. The program's curators selected works by Albert Yonathan Setyawan, Angel Hui, and Dr. William Lim, each bringing their unique perspectives and artistic practices to the project.
The collaboration between The Peninsula Hotels and the V&A Museum in London further highlights the synergy between the hotel group and the arts. Dr. Louis Copplestone, a curator in the Asia Department at the V&A Museum, noted that the museum's mission to bring art, design, and craft to the widest possible audience aligns closely with The Peninsula Hotels' decision to place ambitious installations in their public spaces. By doing so, the hotel group not only enriches the visitor experience but also fosters a deeper connection between art and the community.
Dr. Copplestone drew parallels to the ideas of William Morris, who believed that "art is the expression of man's pleasure in labor." This perspective frames the artists' commissions not as mere decorative elements but as socially meaningful works that engage with the local context and inspire reflection among the public.
The 2026 "Art in Resonance" program at The Peninsula Hong Kong is a testament to the hotel group's dedication to integrating art into their properties, creating spaces where art and hospitality intersect in meaningful ways. Through these installations, The Peninsula Hotels not only enhances the guest experience but also contributes to the cultural landscape of the cities they serve.
