Big news! We’re looking for a new CEO for Stack Overflow. I’m stepping out of the day-to-day and up to the role of Chairman of the Board. Stack Overflow has been around for more than a decade, and it’s remarkable how far it has come. When we first launched, it was a small venture, but it quickly gained traction among developers. Just six months after its launch, my co-founder Jeff Atwood and I were invited to speak at a Microsoft conference for developers in Las Vegas. We were there to demonstrate the use of ASP.NET MVC on a real website, and it was a significant milestone for us.
The conference was held at the Venetian Hotel, a massive venue that could easily accommodate thousands of attendees. As we stood before a crowd of approximately 5,000 developers, we were nervous about asking how many of them had visited Stack Overflow. Jeff was particularly hesitant, warning that it might be embarrassing if no one raised their hand. Despite his doubts, we decided to proceed with the question. To our surprise, about one-third of the attendees raised their hands, indicating that we had already made a significant impact in the developer community. It was a gratifying moment that highlighted the potential of Stack Overflow.
Over the years, we’ve continued to refine and expand our platform. Today, Stack Overflow is a staple for developers worldwide, with over 100 million monthly visitors and a network of 174 sites known as Stack Exchange. Each month, more than 125,000 people contribute answers, showcasing the community’s dedication to sharing knowledge. According to Alexa, stackoverflow.com ranks among the top 50 websites globally, a testament to its influence and popularity.
As we look to the future, it’s time for a new leader to take the helm at Stack Overflow. With my transition to the role of Chairman of the Board, we are seeking an individual who can drive the company forward, leveraging its existing success and fostering innovation. The new CEO will be responsible for guiding Stack Overflow through its next chapter, ensuring it continues to be a vital resource for developers and a leader in the tech community.
In reflecting on our journey, it’s clear that Stack Overflow has evolved from a small startup into a global phenomenon. From that initial conference in Las Vegas to its current position as one of the most visited websites in the world, the platform has touched countless lives and careers. As we search for our next CEO, we are confident that we will find a leader who will uphold the values and vision that have made Stack Overflow such a remarkable success.
The search for the new CEO of Stack Overflow is underway, and we are eager to see where the future holds for this iconic platform. With a strong foundation and a passionate community, Stack Overflow is poised to continue its impact on the world of development, and we look forward to the next chapter under the leadership of our new CEO.
