The best way to watch the Artemis II launch is on C-SPAN

In an era where streaming services have become a maze of subscription fees and shifting content, a hidden gem is poised to provide a refreshing alternative for space enthusiasts. C-SPAN, the channel that has been broadcasting government hearings since 1979, is set to offer comprehensive coverage of NASA's upcoming Artemis II launch. This mission, which is scheduled to take place no earlier than Wednesday, April 1, marks a significant milestone in space exploration and is set to pave the way for future lunar missions.

The Artemis II mission is set to carry four astronauts on a 10-day journey around the moon, marking the first human flyby since the Apollo 8 mission in 1972. This historic voyage is expected to lay the groundwork for NASA's planned return to the lunar surface in 2027. Additionally, the mission will break multiple records and set new milestones. Upon its return, Artemis II will have carried the first woman, first person of color, and the first non-United States citizen beyond low Earth orbit. The spacecraft will also travel about 4,800 miles beyond the moon, surpassing Apollo 8's total distance, and set a new reentry top speed of around 25,000 miles per hour.

C-SPAN's special programming began on March 29 and will continue through April 5, offering daily news briefings and all-day launch coverage on April 1. To further enhance the viewer experience, C-SPAN2 will air 24 hours of documentaries on the history of U.S. crewed spaceflights on March 31 and April 4. These documentaries will provide valuable context and insight into the evolution of space exploration, offering a glimpse into the past while looking towards the future.

In addition to the live coverage, C-SPAN will also host live call-in sessions, allowing viewers to engage directly with guests from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. This unique opportunity to connect with experts and insiders will offer a deeper understanding of the mission and its significance. Furthermore, C-SPAN will cover Artemis II's atmospheric reentry and splashdown, ensuring that every moment of this historic event is captured and shared with the audience.

For those without access to traditional television, C-SPAN is available online through its website or mobile app, ensuring that viewers can tune in from anywhere. This makes it an ideal choice for those seeking a reliable and authentic source of information, free from the distractions and complexities of modern streaming services.

In conclusion, C-SPAN's comprehensive coverage of the Artemis II launch offers a unique and refreshing alternative to the chaotic world of streaming services. With its focus on factual reporting, historical context, and expert commentary, C-SPAN provides a platform for space enthusiasts to experience this historic mission in a way that is both engaging and informative. As the countdown begins, tuning into C-SPAN will undoubtedly be the best way to witness this new era of space exploration unfold.

A simple way to get more value from metrics
A simple way to get more value from metrics
We spent one day 1 building a system that immediately found a mid 7 figure optimization (which ended up shipping). In the first year, we shipped mid 8 figures per year worth of cost savings as a result. The key feature this system introduces is the ability to query metrics data across all hosts and all services and over any period of time (since inception), so we've called it LongTermMetrics (LTM) internally since I like boring, descriptive, names. This got started when I was looking for a starter project that would both help me understand the Twitter infra stack and also have some easily quantifiable value. Andy Wilcox suggested looking at JVM survivor space utilization for some large services. If you're not familiar with what survivor space is, you can think of it as a configurable, fixed-size buffer, in the JVM (at least if you use the GC algorithm that's default at Twitter). At the time, if you looked at a random large services, you'd usually find that either: The buffer was too small, resulting in poor performance, sometimes catastrophically poor when under high load. The buffer was too large, resulting in wasted memory, i.e., wasted money. But instead of looking at random services, there's no fundamental reason that we shouldn't be able to query all services and get a list of which services have room for improvement in their configuration, sorted by performance degradation or cost savings. And if we write that query for JVM survivor space, this also

Context Engineering for Coding Agents
Context Engineering for Coding Agents
The number of options we have to configure and enrich a coding agent’s context has exploded over the past few months. Claude Code is leading the charge with innovations in this space, but other coding assistants are quickly following suit. Powerful context engineering is becoming a huge part of the developer experience of these tools. Birgitta Böckeler explains the current state of context configuration features, using Claude Code as an example. moreтАж

What does less protein and nitrogen mean for methane?
Does feeding less protein to cows over a longer period not only reduce nitrogen losses, but also affect methane emissions? Researchers at Wageningen University & Research (WUR) investigated this in a multi-year study with dairy cows, funded by the Vereniging Diervoederonderzoek Nederland (VDN), the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN), and […] The post What does less protein and nitrogen mean for methane? appeared first on Agriland.ie .
