Support our first Global Voices Spotlight Issue: Human Perspectives on AI!

Global Voices, the international network of independent media outlets, is launching its first Global Voices Spotlight Issue, focusing on human perspectives in the age of AI. Every month, Global Voices selects an urgent theme to explore in depth across all its regions, offering a diverse range of perspectives grounded in the organization's commitment to human and digital rights. This month's theme, "Human Perspectives on AI," aims to shed light on how the widespread adoption of AI is affecting the Global Majority—the billions of people who are often overlooked in mainstream narratives.

The Global Majority includes individuals and communities across the globe who are experiencing the impacts of AI in their daily lives, from the way AI is weaponized in elections and conflicts to the consequences for low-resource languages and the effects on human rights. By examining these issues, Global Voices seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of AI's role in shaping our world, offering insights that go beyond the narrow reporting often focused on the rich, famous, and available for comment.

The Spotlight Issue will feature collaborative articles, online panels, and analysis of key narratives using the Civic Media Observatory methodology. Cross-cutting essays will highlight trends, exceptions, and insights gained from looking at vital issues of today through the lens of global contributors. This approach ensures that readers will encounter a wide array of perspectives, uncovering angles they may not have considered before.

The Global Voices Spotlight Issue on AI will delve into various aspects of AI's influence, from its impact on elections and conflicts to the challenges faced by low-resource languages and the broader implications for human rights. By sharing these stories, insights, and analysis, Global Voices aims to raise the profile of important topics and illuminate connections across regions, borders, and languages.

However, the success of the Spotlight Issue relies on the support of donors. Global Voices can only publish as many articles as it can afford, and the organization is calling on individuals and organizations to contribute to the "Human Perspectives on AI" Spotlight issue. Each individual donation of $25 or more will receive an ebook copy of the full Spotlight issue once it's complete.

In addition to individual donations, Global Voices has set stretch goals to expand the scope of the project. A cumulative goal of $1,000 will allow the organization to produce an additional Undertones column analyzing narrative trends, as there are more ideas for fascinating narrative analysis stories than can be produced at the current budget.

By donating to the Global Voices Spotlight Issue on AI, you are not only supporting the production of high-quality, diverse reporting but also helping to amplify the voices of the Global Majority. Your contribution will enable Global Voices to share more stories, insights, and analysis on this crucial topic, ensuring that a wide range of perspectives are heard and understood in the ongoing conversation about AI and its impact on our world.

In a world where AI is rapidly transforming every aspect of life, it is essential to approach these developments with a human-centered perspective. The Global Voices Spotlight Issue on AI offers a unique opportunity to explore these issues from the ground up, ensuring that the narratives are shaped by the people who are most affected by AI's rise. By supporting this initiative, you are playing a crucial role in shaping a more inclusive and equitable future for all. Donate now and help Global Voices share more stories, insights, and analysis on this vital topic.
