Statesmen's Forum: The Right Honourable Theresa May, MP, Home Secretary, United Kingdom

The CSIS International Security Program (ISP) is hosting a discussion with the Right Honourable Theresa May, MP, and Home Secretary of the United Kingdom, on counter-terrorism policy. This event, part of the Statesmen's Forum, offers an opportunity for May to share her insights and strategies on addressing global terrorism threats.

Theresa May, a prominent figure in British politics, has been serving as the Home Secretary since July 2016. In this role, she oversees the country's security and immigration policies, making her a key voice in the ongoing global fight against terrorism. Her tenure has seen significant efforts to strengthen counter-terrorism measures, including the implementation of stricter laws and increased cooperation with intelligence agencies.

The CSIS ISP is a renowned institution that provides in-depth analysis on international security and defense issues. With growing competition between the United States and countries like China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea, the ISP's research offers valuable perspectives on the evolving global security landscape. The program's events and publications are designed to inform policymakers and the public about the complex challenges facing nations in maintaining security and stability.

In addition to counter-terrorism, the ISP also covers a wide range of topics, including Brexit, European security, politics, and economics. The CSIS Travel Guide to Brexit provides comprehensive resources on this historic and complex event, offering commentaries, blog posts, videos, and podcasts that explore its implications for the United Kingdom, the European Union, and the United States.

The Global Leaders Forum, another initiative by the ISP, provides a platform for world leaders to present their views on critical issues to a Washington audience. This forum fosters dialogue and understanding among global policymakers, enabling them to address pressing challenges and shape the future of international relations.

The CSIS Defense and Security Department focuses on the most complex issues shaping the global security landscape. Amid a rapid shift in the global balance of power, the department's research offers practical solutions to the hardest national security strategy questions. From the state of U.S. readiness to the role of emerging technology in defense, the department aims to strengthen national security and provide actionable insights for policymakers.

The Statesmen's Forum, which includes the discussion with Theresa May, is a series of events that bring together leading experts and policymakers to engage in meaningful dialogue on critical global issues. These forums serve as a platform for sharing ideas, fostering collaboration, and shaping the future of international security and defense.

In conclusion, the upcoming discussion with Theresa May on counter-terrorism policy at the CSIS International Security Program's Statesmen's Forum promises to be an insightful event. May's experience as the UK Home Secretary, combined with the ISP's expertise in international security, will provide a valuable opportunity to explore strategies for combating terrorism and understanding the complex challenges facing global security. This event highlights the ongoing importance of collaboration and dialogue among policymakers and experts in addressing the evolving threats to international security.

A simple way to get more value from metrics
A simple way to get more value from metrics
We spent one day 1 building a system that immediately found a mid 7 figure optimization (which ended up shipping). In the first year, we shipped mid 8 figures per year worth of cost savings as a result. The key feature this system introduces is the ability to query metrics data across all hosts and all services and over any period of time (since inception), so we've called it LongTermMetrics (LTM) internally since I like boring, descriptive, names. This got started when I was looking for a starter project that would both help me understand the Twitter infra stack and also have some easily quantifiable value. Andy Wilcox suggested looking at JVM survivor space utilization for some large services. If you're not familiar with what survivor space is, you can think of it as a configurable, fixed-size buffer, in the JVM (at least if you use the GC algorithm that's default at Twitter). At the time, if you looked at a random large services, you'd usually find that either: The buffer was too small, resulting in poor performance, sometimes catastrophically poor when under high load. The buffer was too large, resulting in wasted memory, i.e., wasted money. But instead of looking at random services, there's no fundamental reason that we shouldn't be able to query all services and get a list of which services have room for improvement in their configuration, sorted by performance degradation or cost savings. And if we write that query for JVM survivor space, this also

Context Engineering for Coding Agents
The number of options we have to configure and enrich a coding agent’s context has exploded over the past few months. Claude Code is leading the charge with innovations in this space, but other coding assistants are quickly following suit. Powerful context engineering is becoming a huge part of the developer experience of these tools. Birgitta Böckeler explains the current state of context configuration features, using Claude Code as an example. moreтАж

What does less protein and nitrogen mean for methane?
Does feeding less protein to cows over a longer period not only reduce nitrogen losses, but also affect methane emissions? Researchers at Wageningen University & Research (WUR) investigated this in a multi-year study with dairy cows, funded by the Vereniging Diervoederonderzoek Nederland (VDN), the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN), and […] The post What does less protein and nitrogen mean for methane? appeared first on Agriland.ie .
