South China bringing back some old hands as they start Champions League Asia campaign

South China are gearing up for their first foray into the Basketball Champions League Asia in over four decades, and they are doing so with a sprinkle of nostalgia. The Hong Kong-based team is bringing back four former players to bolster their line-up ahead of the upcoming competition, which kicks off next week. This move is seen as a strategic decision to strengthen their squad and make a significant impact in their inaugural overseas tournament.

The addition of Dominic Gilbert and Glen Yang from A1 Division rivals Hong Kong Eastern is a notable boost for South China. Both players are well-versed in the local basketball scene and their experience will undoubtedly be invaluable as the team prepares for the challenges ahead. Gilbert, a key figure in Eastern's recent successes, brings a wealth of talent and leadership to the team, while Yang's versatility will provide much-needed flexibility on the court.

Leung Shiu-wah, who returns from Winling, is another familiar face joining the South China ranks. Leung's tenure at Winling has been marked by consistent performances, and his return to his former club is expected to rekindle his form and add depth to the team's roster. With a wealth of experience under his belt, Leung is poised to guide younger players and help the team navigate the complexities of the Champions League Asia.

Completing the quartet of returning players is Tsai Choi-kwan, who comes back from Tycoon. Tsai's experience and basketball IQ will be crucial as South China looks to compete against teams from across Asia. His ability to read the game and make key passes will be instrumental in orchestrating the team's offensive plays and ensuring they capitalize on scoring opportunities.

The decision to re-sign these former players highlights South China's commitment to success in the Basketball Champions League Asia. By leveraging the familiarity and experience of these players, the team aims to build a cohesive unit that can adapt to the high-pressure environment of an international tournament. The addition of these "old hands" not only brings a sense of continuity but also fosters a strong team dynamic that can help South China overcome the challenges they will face.

This move also underscores the significance of the Basketball Champions League Asia for South China. Having waited over four decades to participate in an overseas competition, the team is eager to make a statement and establish themselves as a formidable force in the region. The inclusion of these experienced players is a testament to the club's ambition and determination to succeed in this prestigious tournament.

As the team prepares for their opening matches, the presence of these familiar faces is expected to instill confidence and camaraderie among the players. The combination of youthful energy and seasoned experience will be key to South China's success in the Basketball Champions League Asia. Fans and supporters are eagerly anticipating the team's performance, hoping that this blend of old and new will propel them to new heights in the competition.

In conclusion, South China's decision to bring back four former players marks a strategic and emotional return to their basketball roots. With a mix of familiar faces and fresh talent, the team is well-positioned to make a significant impact in the Basketball Champions League Asia. As they embark on this historic journey, the club's focus remains on building a strong, competitive team that can rise to the occasion and make their mark on the international stage.

Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3 is now available. CLJ-2843 - Reflective calls to Java methods that take primitive long or double now work when passed a narrower boxed number at runtime (Integer, Short, Byte, Float). Previously, these methods were not matched during reflection and an error was thrown. Java 21 added an overload to the method Thread/sleep in the 1-arity. When upgrading to Java 21, existing Clojure calls to Thread/sleep become reflective, but continue to work. As usual, you can detect reflection with *warn-on-reflection* and address with a type hint (here, ^long ) to choose the desired overload. Previously, passing a Short or Integer value to a reflective call like Thread/sleep that takes a long would not match, that has been corrected.
