SCMP Best Bets: Lucky Ranger can be a good omen at Sha Tin

In the latest edition of SCMP Best Bets, three notable horses are highlighted for their potential to shine in upcoming races at Sha Tin Racecourse. These horses, Lucky Ranger, Six Pack, and Glowing Praise, are expected to put up a strong performance, thanks to their recent form and favorable racing conditions.

Starting with Lucky Ranger, a four-year-old gelding trained by Jay Rooney, the horse has shown impressive potential in his last start. Lucky Ranger, running at gate 4 with a starting price of $2, has proven to be a smart last-start winner, capable of heading much higher in the racing hierarchy. His recent performance suggests that he has the tools necessary to challenge for top honors in future races.

Next on the list is Six Pack, a ten-year-old gelding trained by Owen Goulding. Six Pack, scheduled to run at gate 10 with a starting price of $8, is expected to benefit from his box seat position behind a searing pace. The horse has shown promise in previous races, including a near-miss in his latest outing. With this new opportunity to atone for his previous performance, Six Pack could potentially deliver a strong showing at Sha Tin.

The third horse to watch is Glowing Praise, a six-year-old gelding trained by Olivia O'Sullivan and Phillip Woo. Glowing Praise, running at gate 6 with a starting price of $1, has had a narrow defeat in his last race despite having the widest draw. This time, however, he has a much better gate position, which could give him the edge he needs to secure a victory. Both trainers, O'Sullivan and Woo, have high expectations for Glowing Praise, who has shown two solid runs over this track and trip.

In addition to these three horses, Shannon, trained by Vincent Wong, is also mentioned in relation to Lucky Ranger. While the exact nature of their connection is not specified, it is clear that Lucky Ranger is being closely watched by the racing community, with Shannon likely playing a supporting role in his journey.

As the race day approaches, fans and bettors will be keeping an eye on these three horses, each with their own unique set of strengths and recent form. Lucky Ranger's smartness and potential for improvement, Six Pack's ability to capitalize on a fast pace, and Glowing Praise's previous near-victory all point to these horses being strong contenders in their respective races.

In conclusion, the SCMP Best Bets highlight three horses that are poised to make a significant impact at Sha Tin Racecourse. Lucky Ranger, Six Pack, and Glowing Praise each have their own reasons to be considered favorites, based on their recent performances, gate positions, and the support of their trainers. As the race day draws near, these horses will undoubtedly be in the spotlight, with racing enthusiasts eagerly anticipating their performances on the track.

Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3 is now available. CLJ-2843 - Reflective calls to Java methods that take primitive long or double now work when passed a narrower boxed number at runtime (Integer, Short, Byte, Float). Previously, these methods were not matched during reflection and an error was thrown. Java 21 added an overload to the method Thread/sleep in the 1-arity. When upgrading to Java 21, existing Clojure calls to Thread/sleep become reflective, but continue to work. As usual, you can detect reflection with *warn-on-reflection* and address with a type hint (here, ^long ) to choose the desired overload. Previously, passing a Short or Integer value to a reflective call like Thread/sleep that takes a long would not match, that has been corrected.
