SatLeo Labs Raises $2.2 Mn To Advance Thermal Satellite Intelligence Platform

SatLeo Labs, a spacetech startup specializing in thermal satellite intelligence, has secured $2.2 million in seed funding, bringing its total funding to $5.5 million. The latest round, led by Unicorn India Ventures, also includes participation from existing investors Merak Ventures, Java Capital, IIMA-CIIE, and others. The fresh capital will be used to advance SatLeo Labs' flagship thermal satellite mission and develop its AI-powered platform for thermal intelligence applications.

Founded in 2023 by Shravan Bhati, Urmil Bakhai, and Ranendu Ghosh, SatLeo Labs has been rapidly expanding its capabilities and team. The Ahmedabad-based startup focuses on building satellites that capture both thermal and visual images of Earth, enabling real-time tracking of climate changes, farming conditions, disasters, and defense activities. By utilizing proprietary technology to collect data from low Earth orbit (LEO), SatLeo Labs' satellites can detect heat signals from space, aiding in monitoring crop health, rising temperatures, wildfire risks, and weather patterns, as well as supporting defense surveillance.

Over the past year, SatLeo Labs has experienced significant growth in technology, team expansion, and commercial traction. The company's team has grown from 8 members to 30, including engineers and researchers specializing in satellite missions, thermal sensing, and AI-driven geospatial analytics. SatLeo Labs achieved a milestone by developing and delivering its first experimental thermal payload, TAPAS-1, within six months, achieving TRL-8 readiness and preparing it for launch. The startup has also begun pilot projects for urban heat and air pollution monitoring in Ahmedabad and Tumkur, impacting over 400,000 citizens.

In addition to technological advancements, SatLeo Labs has seen strong commercial interest in its services. The company's commercial pipeline has grown, with letter of intents rising to over $42 million. With the latest funding, SatLeo Labs plans to strengthen its space-based thermal intelligence capabilities over the next 12 months by focusing on satellite launch readiness, commercial expansion, and scaling its technology.

The seed funding round highlights the growing demand for advanced satellite-based solutions in various sectors, including agriculture, climate monitoring, and defense. SatLeo Labs' ability to combine cutting-edge satellite technology with AI-driven analytics positions it as a key player in the evolving spacetech industry. As the company continues to expand its capabilities and commercial reach, it is poised to deliver valuable insights and solutions to a diverse range of customers globally.
