Redesign our Site Identity

We are excited to announce a comprehensive redesign of our site. The design for this update was created by Taeko Akatsuka . As part of this update, we have redesigned the site’s identity as “A language where people gather, a site where people are visible.” Ruby has been a language centered on “programmer happiness” for 30 years. The new key visual expresses the presence of people surrounding Ruby. The composition features diverse hand-drawn illustrated characters radiating outward from the central Ruby logo, representing developers around the world connecting through Ruby, creating value in their respective fields, and enjoying Ruby alongside familiar motifs. While conveying Ruby’s modern strengths of ecosystem, productivity, and community, the warm visual style embodies the unchanged joy, approachability, and tactile quality that have been core to Ruby since its inception. We aimed for an expression unique to Ruby that cannot be found on other programming language sites. Matz highlights simplicity of expression as one of Ruby’s strengths, in addition to ecosystem, productivity, and community. In the new design, following the key visual, Ruby code is displayed to emphasize its essence as a programming language. We also incorporated interviews with community members and photographs, creating a site where you can sense the presence of the many people behind the programming language. The site-wide update with the new design is still ongoing. There are still many areas for improvement, such as broken links and inconsistencies. We look forward to your feedback. Redesign our Site Identity

We are thrilled to announce a comprehensive redesign of our site identity, reflecting Ruby's enduring commitment to fostering a community of programmers who find joy in coding. The redesign, spearheaded by Taeko Akatsuka, aims to reimagine Ruby's online presence as a space where people gather and are visible, emphasizing the human element that has always been central to the language.

Ruby has been celebrated as a language focused on "programmer happiness" for over three decades. This new design seeks to capture the essence of Ruby's modern strengths—its robust ecosystem, productivity, and vibrant community—while also honoring the warmth, approachability, and tactile quality that have defined the language since its inception. The key visual element of the redesign features a hand-drawn illustration of diverse characters radiating outward from the central Ruby logo, symbolizing developers worldwide connecting through Ruby, contributing to their respective fields, and enjoying the language alongside familiar motifs.

This unique visual style was designed to be distinctly Ruby, offering an expression that cannot be found on other programming language sites. Yukihiro "Matz" Matsumoto, Ruby's creator, has long emphasized simplicity of expression as one of Ruby's key strengths, alongside its ecosystem, productivity, and community. The new design reflects this philosophy, with Ruby code prominently displayed to underscore its identity as a programming language.

In addition to the visual overhaul, the redesigned site incorporates interviews with community members and photographs, creating a sense of community and highlighting the many individuals behind the programming language. These elements work together to transform the site into a living, breathing space where visitors can feel the presence and passion of Ruby's global community.

While the site-wide update with the new design is still ongoing, there are still areas for improvement. As with any major redesign, some broken links and inconsistencies may persist. We welcome feedback from users to help us refine the site and ensure it delivers the best possible experience for Ruby enthusiasts.
