Real Madrid hope Champions League magic halts Bayern machine, Arsenal face character test

Real Madrid and Arsenal face daunting Champions League challenges as they prepare to face off against formidable opponents. The Spanish giants are eager to halt Bayern Munich's dominance, while Arsenal must confront their own demons after a disastrous start to their quarter-final clash with Sporting Lisbon.

Vincent Kompany's Bayern Munich arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday with high expectations, bolstered by the return of their star striker, Harry Kane. The English forward, who has been sidelined for several weeks due to injury, is expected to be available for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final. Kane's presence could prove crucial for Bayern, as they look to assert their dominance in European football. The Bavarian side has been performing exceptionally well this season, displaying a blend of tactical discipline and attacking flair that has seen them at the top of their domestic league.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, have had a challenging campaign, struggling to find consistency both domestically and in Europe. Despite their status as 15-time European champions, the Merengues have been plagued by injuries and a lack of form. Manager Carlo Ancelotti will be counting on his experienced squad, including the likes of Luka Modric and Vinicius Junior, to rise to the occasion and challenge Bayern's formidable defense. The Santiago Bernabeu crowd will undoubtedly provide a significant boost, but the task ahead remains daunting.

Meanwhile, Arsenal face their own character test as they look to recover from a disastrous start to their quarter-final against Sporting Lisbon. After suffering a 3-0 defeat in the first leg, Mikel Arteta has urged his players to dig deep and show resilience in the return leg at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners' recent form has been inconsistent, with highs and lows that have left fans questioning their ability to compete at the highest level.

Arteta's message to his players is clear: they must embrace the challenge and demonstrate the mental strength required to overcome such a significant deficit. The pressure is on, but Arsenal have a history of overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds in European competitions. With key players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli in top form, there is hope that they can mount a comeback and secure a place in the semi-finals.

As both Real Madrid and Arsenal prepare for their crucial Champions League ties, the stakes could not be higher. For Real Madrid, the challenge is to reignite their magic and halt Bayern's machine, while Arsenal must confront their own demons and prove their character. The stage is set for two thrilling encounters that will test the limits of both teams and their fans. The outcome will not only determine their fate in Europe but also send a powerful message about their resilience and determination in the face of adversity.

Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3 is now available. CLJ-2843 - Reflective calls to Java methods that take primitive long or double now work when passed a narrower boxed number at runtime (Integer, Short, Byte, Float). Previously, these methods were not matched during reflection and an error was thrown. Java 21 added an overload to the method Thread/sleep in the 1-arity. When upgrading to Java 21, existing Clojure calls to Thread/sleep become reflective, but continue to work. As usual, you can detect reflection with *warn-on-reflection* and address with a type hint (here, ^long ) to choose the desired overload. Previously, passing a Short or Integer value to a reflective call like Thread/sleep that takes a long would not match, that has been corrected.
