PSA: YouTube will be streaming Coachella for free next week

Coachella officially kicks off next Friday, April 10. But for anyone who doesn’t want to fly out to the desert or fork over upwards of $650 for a ticket, YouTube is going to livestream the concert for free so you can enjoy it on your own terms. Here’s a quick overview of all the programming that will be available in just over a week.  With YouTube planning on providing feeds of seven different stages, there will be no shortage of content. This includes the Quasar stage in both horizontal and vertical formats, so no matter what device you're using, there should be an aspect ratio that works. Furthermore, for the first time, YouTube will also provide 4K streams of the main Coachella stage along with the Outdoor Theatre and Sahara. That's a lot of music and artists to watch at once, so you'll probably want to check out the official lineup or download the app (available on Android and iOS ) to better plan out your schedule.  Alternatively, if you're just in it for the vibes, there will also be a 24/7 Coachella TV stream featuring sets from both this year's event and past performances. And if you can't decide on a single artist to follow, you'll also have a multi-view option allowing you to watch up to four stages at the same time.  Finally, in case you feel like you're missing out on the social aspect of the concert, YouTube is bringing back its "Watch With" feature that pairs

PSA: YouTube will be streaming Coachella for free next week

YouTube is set to stream the highly anticipated Coachella music festival for free next week, offering fans around the world a chance to experience the event without the need to travel to the desert or pay for expensive tickets. The festival kicks off on April 10, and YouTube has announced a comprehensive lineup of live streams that will cater to diverse preferences and viewing devices.

For those eager to catch their favorite performances, YouTube will provide feeds from seven different stages, ensuring a wide range of content. This includes the Quasar stage in both horizontal and vertical formats, which means viewers can enjoy the streams on any device, as the aspect ratio will adapt to their screens. Additionally, YouTube will offer 4K streams of the main Coachella stage, the Outdoor Theatre, and the Sahara stage for the first time. With so many artists and performances to choose from, attendees are encouraged to check the official lineup or download the Coachella app (available on Android and iOS) to plan their schedule effectively.

If viewers are primarily interested in the festival's atmosphere, YouTube will offer a 24/7 Coachella TV stream featuring sets from both this year's event and past performances. For those who can't decide on a single artist to follow, a multi-view option will be available, allowing viewers to watch up to four stages simultaneously.

To enhance the social experience of the concert, YouTube is reintroducing its "Watch With" feature, which will pair content creators such as Valkyrae and Daniel Wall with artists like Katseye and Fujii Kaze. This interactive feature will provide real-time feedback and reactions, creating a more engaging experience for viewers.

For those looking to capture memories from the virtual event, YouTube will host an online merch store with exclusive drops from artists like BINI, Ethel Cain, Foster the People, Laufey, and The xx. To access these items, viewers will need to point their camera at a QR code that will appear on the screen, and it's recommended to have an extra device nearby for this process.

Regardless of whether fans are tuning in to catch specific performances, enjoy the festival's vibe, or simply explore the lineup, YouTube's free streaming of Coachella provides a unique opportunity for music enthusiasts to experience the event in their own way. With a variety of options and features, YouTube aims to make the festival accessible and enjoyable for a global audience.

UI backwards compatibility
UI backwards compatibility
About once a month, an app that I regularly use will change its UI in a way that breaks muscle memory, basically tricking the user into doing things they don’t want. Zulip In recent memory, Zulip (a slack competitor) changed its newline behavior so that ctrl + enter sends a message instead of inserting a new line. After this change, I sent a number of half-baked messages and it seemed like some other people did too. Around the time they made that change, they made another change such that a series of clicks that would cause you to send a private message to someone would instead cause you to send a private message to the alphabetically first person who was online. Most people didn’t notice that this was a change, but when I mentioned that this had happened to me a few times in the past couple weeks, multiple people immediately said that the exact same thing happened to them. Some people also mentioned that the behavior of navigation shortcut keys was changed in a way that could cause people to broadcast a message instead of sending a private message. In both cases, some people blamed themselves and didn’t know why they’d just started making mistakes that caused them to send messages to the wrong place. Doors A while back, I was at Black Seed Bagel, which has a door that looks 75% like a “push” door from both sides when it’s actually a push door from the outside and
