Philippines’ Manny Pacquiao says fight against Floyd Mayweather ‘not an exhibition’

Manny Pacquiao, the Philippines' legendary boxing icon, has clarified that his highly anticipated September fight against Floyd Mayweather will not be an exhibition match, contrary to Mayweather's recent statement. The two boxing legends, both in their late forties, were set to face off in a rematch of their 2015 historic clash, which was the highest-grossing boxing event in history. Netflix announced the long-awaited rematch last month, with the bout scheduled for September 19 at the Sphere in Las Vegas.

In a recent interview, Mayweather had surprised the boxing community by describing the upcoming fight as "entertainment," raising doubts about its competitive nature. However, Pacquiao quickly addressed these concerns, emphasizing that the match will indeed be a real fight and not just a staged exhibition. This clarification comes as fans and boxing enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the rematch, which promises to be a thrilling showdown between two of the sport's greatest champions.

The 2015 bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather was a landmark event that drew millions of viewers worldwide. The first fight ended in a unanimous decision victory for Mayweather, who retained his undefeated record and multiple world championships. Since then, both boxers have continued to compete at the highest level, with Pacquiao winning several titles in different weight classes and Mayweather retiring undefeated in 2017 before making a highly publicized comeback in 2018.

The announcement of their rematch sparked excitement and curiosity, particularly given their age and the passage of time since their first encounter. While Mayweather's description of the fight as "entertainment" initially raised questions about its competitive integrity, Pacquiao's insistence on a real match reassures fans that they can expect a competitive and exciting showdown.

The September 19 date marks the second time the two legends will face off in the ring, and the first time since Mayweather's retirement. The fight's location, the Sphere in Las Vegas, is also significant, as it is where the first bout took place. This rematch is not only a chance for both boxers to prove their mettle but also an opportunity for fans to witness the culmination of one of the most iconic rivalries in boxing history.

As the date approaches, the anticipation for the fight has grown, with fans and experts alike eager to see how the aging champions fare against each other. Pacquiao's clarification that the match will be a real fight adds an extra layer of intrigue, as it suggests that both boxers are taking the rematch seriously and are committed to delivering a competitive performance.

In conclusion, Manny Pacquiao's statement that his September fight against Floyd Mayweather will not be an exhibition has put minds at ease among fans and boxing enthusiasts. The rematch of the highest-grossing clash in boxing history promises to be a thrilling event, with both legends set to deliver a competitive showdown in Las Vegas. As the date draws near, the excitement surrounding the fight continues to build, and the world eagerly awaits the outcome of this historic rematch.

Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3 is now available. CLJ-2843 - Reflective calls to Java methods that take primitive long or double now work when passed a narrower boxed number at runtime (Integer, Short, Byte, Float). Previously, these methods were not matched during reflection and an error was thrown. Java 21 added an overload to the method Thread/sleep in the 1-arity. When upgrading to Java 21, existing Clojure calls to Thread/sleep become reflective, but continue to work. As usual, you can detect reflection with *warn-on-reflection* and address with a type hint (here, ^long ) to choose the desired overload. Previously, passing a Short or Integer value to a reflective call like Thread/sleep that takes a long would not match, that has been corrected.
