Phil Mickelson withdraws from Masters, joins Tiger Woods in pulling out of major

Three-time champion Phil Mickelson withdrew from the Masters on Thursday, citing a personal health matter with his family that kept him out of all but one of the five LIV Golf events this year. Phil Mickelson withdraws from Masters, joins Tiger Woods in pulling out of major

Phil Mickelson's withdrawal from the Masters on Thursday marks a significant moment in golf history, as it joins Tiger Woods in pulling out of the prestigious tournament. This is the first time neither iconic golfer will be present at the Masters since 1994, when Woods was still a high school senior.

Mickelson, a three-time Masters champion, cited a personal health matter with his family as the reason for his withdrawal. This decision comes as he has been absent from all but one of the five LIV Golf events this year. The LIV Tour, which launched in 2022, has been a point of contention in the golfing world, with some critics viewing it as a money-driven venture that could disrupt the existing structure of professional golf. Mickelson's limited participation in LIV events may reflect his ongoing commitment to traditional golf tournaments, but his withdrawal from the Masters raises questions about his priorities.

Earlier in the week, Tiger Woods announced that he would be taking an indefinite leave from golf to seek treatment following his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence in a March 27 crash in Florida. Woods' decision to step away from the sport highlights the seriousness of the situation and the impact it will have on his career. The Masters, a tournament Woods has won five times, is a tournament he has always been closely associated with, and his absence will be felt deeply.

The combined absence of Woods and Mickelson from the Masters is a stark reminder of the challenges both golfers have faced in recent years. Woods, who has struggled with injuries and personal issues, has been trying to rebuild his career, while Mickelson's decision to participate in the LIV Tour has been met with mixed reactions from fans and fellow golfers.

The Masters, held annually at Augusta National Golf Club, is one of golf's four major championships and is steeped in tradition. The tournament has been a stage for some of the greatest moments in golf history, and the absence of two of its most legendary figures will undoubtedly leave a void. Fans and analysts will be watching closely to see how both Woods and Mickelson navigate their personal and professional challenges, and whether they will return to the sport in the future.

In the meantime, the Masters will proceed without its two most iconic figures, but the tournament's rich history and the dedication of its participants will ensure that it remains a significant event in the world of golf. As golfers and fans alike look to the future, the absence of Woods and Mickelson serves as a poignant reminder of the complexities of professional sports and the personal sacrifices that often accompany success.

Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3 is now available. CLJ-2843 - Reflective calls to Java methods that take primitive long or double now work when passed a narrower boxed number at runtime (Integer, Short, Byte, Float). Previously, these methods were not matched during reflection and an error was thrown. Java 21 added an overload to the method Thread/sleep in the 1-arity. When upgrading to Java 21, existing Clojure calls to Thread/sleep become reflective, but continue to work. As usual, you can detect reflection with *warn-on-reflection* and address with a type hint (here, ^long ) to choose the desired overload. Previously, passing a Short or Integer value to a reflective call like Thread/sleep that takes a long would not match, that has been corrected.
