Neuron Energy plans 5 GWh battery storage factory in India

Neuron Energy, an India-based EV battery manufacturer, is set to expand its operations by entering the grid-scale storage market. The company has announced plans to build a 5 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility in the Indian state of Maharashtra, specifically in Talegaon. This move marks Neuron Energy's foray into the grid-scale storage segment, leveraging its existing expertise in battery manufacturing.

The new facility, spanning 7 acres, will be a fully automated, robotic manufacturing plant designed for containerized energy storage systems. The investment for this project is estimated at INR 1 billion ($10.8 million). Once operational, the facility will have an annual production capacity of 5 GWh and the ability to produce up to 1,000 BESS units per year. These modular systems are intended for deployment across solar and grid infrastructure, enabling the storage of surplus energy during peak generation periods and dispatch during times of high demand.

Neuron Energy's decision to establish this facility in Maharashtra is part of a strategic plan to create a robust energy storage portfolio. The company aims to capitalize on its existing battery manufacturing capabilities while addressing the growing demand for grid-scale storage solutions in India and internationally. The facility will not only enhance Neuron Energy's production capabilities but also contribute to the country's renewable energy goals by enabling more efficient energy management.

The new manufacturing plant is expected to create more than 500 direct and indirect jobs across various sectors, including engineering, manufacturing, system integration, installation, and technical services. This employment opportunity is significant in the context of India's push for job creation in the renewable energy sector. Neuron Energy's investment in Maharashtra underscores the state's potential as a hub for green energy technologies, further boosting the local economy.

Neuron Energy's go-to-market strategy for the new BESS facility will target solar developers, commercial and industrial (C&I) customers, and utilities. The company plans to achieve a business mix of 60% domestic and 40% export markets, indicating its ambition to scale operations both within India and globally. By entering the grid-scale storage market, Neuron Energy is positioning itself to benefit from the growing demand for energy storage solutions, driven by the transition to renewable energy sources and the need for more reliable grid infrastructure.

The 5 GWh BESS facility in Maharashtra is a testament to Neuron Energy's commitment to innovation and expansion in the energy storage sector. As the company builds on its existing capabilities, it is poised to play a crucial role in addressing India's energy challenges and contributing to the global shift towards sustainable energy solutions. This strategic move not only strengthens Neuron Energy's position in the market but also highlights the potential of India as a key player in the global energy storage industry.

Who’s to blame if you were served a greasy cup of “soapy soup” in a tapsilog joint? Is it the dishwasher who treats the grease like a decorative fixture? The waiter who delivered it with a straight face? The chef who doesn’t care? Or the manager who’s watching a YouTube video while on duty?
