Look Outside's April 1 update that let you kiss enemies is now a permanent 'smooch mode'

For April Fools' Day, the developer of Look Outside released an update that added a new option to your interactions with NPCs: kissing. Instead of just fighting or talking to enemies and surviving neighbors in the cursed apartment building, you could give 'em a smooch. Their dialogue and sprites were updated accordingly, too. Cue stammering eldritch horrors with bright red blushing cheeks. April Fools' Day is (thankfully) over now, but there's good news for anyone who has been enjoying the lovefest or didn't get a chance to try it. Developer Francis Coulombe has built in a way for players to access "smooch mode" going forward.   "If you started a game on April 1st and kissed the wounded neighbor, that save file is now permanently in smooch mode!" Coulombe posted on social media. "You can also activate smooch mode on a new save file by naming Sam 'Casanova'." I immediately started a new save to confirm and, yes, doing this does indeed allow you to go on a kissing spree. While you can't smooch every single person/abomination you'll run into, you sure can kiss a lot of them. Want to kiss the Rat King? Go wild. Pierre? Yup. That weird bug guy in the basement who eats bandages? Unfortunately yes, he's kissable too. This truly is the game that keeps on giving. We're apparently getting a real, non-silly update in the near-future as well, so Look Outside fans are eatin' good. Now, please excuse me while I get back to my

Look Outside's April 1 update that let you kiss enemies is now a permanent 'smooch mode'

For April Fools' Day, the developer of Look Outside, a game set in a cursed apartment building, introduced an update that added a new interaction option with non-playable characters (NPCs): kissing. This playful addition allowed players to choose from more than just fighting or talking with enemies and surviving neighbors. The NPCs' dialogue and sprites were updated to reflect their reactions to being kissed, with eldritch horrors blushing bright red and stammering in response.

The April Fools' Day update brought a whimsical twist to the game, but as the day passed, players might have assumed the feature would be removed. However, developer Francis Coulombe surprised fans by making the "smooch mode" permanent for those who had experienced it. Coulombe shared on social media that any save file started on April 1st and in which the player had kissed the wounded neighbor would now be permanently in smooch mode. Additionally, players could activate smooch mode on a new save file by naming the character Sam "Casanova."

Testing this new feature, players found that while not every NPC could be kissed, a significant number were indeed made available for affection. The Rat King, Pierre, and even the weird bug guy in the basement who eats bandages became targets for players on a kissing spree. The game's developer, Coulombe, continued to delight fans by promising a real, non-silly update in the near future, ensuring that Look Outside remains a game that keeps on giving.

For those who missed the original April Fools' Day update or simply enjoyed the novelty of kissing NPCs, the permanent smooch mode offers a unique and entertaining way to interact with the game's inhabitants. While some players might have been hesitant to kiss certain abominations, the option remains available, allowing for a more personalized and unconventional gaming experience.

As Look Outside fans eagerly anticipate future updates, the permanent smooch mode serves as a delightful reminder of the game's playful spirit. For now, players can continue their kissing adventures, from the Rat King to Pierre, and even the bandage-eating bug, all while waiting for the next surprise from developer Francis Coulombe.
