Hong Kong's women's national ice hockey team has secured a historic victory in the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women’s World Championship Division IIB tournament, clinching the title with a match to spare. The team will face Belgium in their final game on Sunday, but the outcome will not affect their promotion to Division IIA, marking their second promotion in just three years.

The team's unbeaten run on home ice in Discovery Bay has been a testament to their hard work and dedication. This triumph not only elevates Hong Kong's standing in the international ice hockey community but also highlights the growing passion for the sport in the region. Team captain Adrienne May Li expressed that planning for the challenges of Division IIA will begin almost immediately, as the team prepares to face new opponents and higher competition levels.

This week has been particularly memorable for Hong Kong's ice hockey players, as the under-18 team also achieved significant success, securing silver in their respective tournament. This double accomplishment underscores the vibrant growth of the sport in the city and the potential for future successes.

The journey to this achievement has been marked by perseverance and strategic planning. Hong Kong's ice hockey program has been steadily improving in recent years, with a focus on nurturing local talent and fostering a competitive environment. The team's recent promotions are a direct result of these efforts, showcasing the positive impact of sustained investment in the sport.

The victory not only highlights the team's prowess but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring athletes in Hong Kong and beyond. The success of the women's national team is a clear indication that the sport of ice hockey is gaining traction in a region traditionally known for its warm climate.

Looking ahead, the promotion to Division IIA presents new opportunities and challenges for the team. Adrienne May Li and her teammates will need to adapt to the increased competition and refine their strategies to succeed at the higher level. However, the team's recent track record gives them confidence in their abilities, and they are eager to continue making history in international ice hockey.

In conclusion, Hong Kong's women's national ice hockey team has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing the Women’s World Championship Division IIB title with a match to spare. Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3 is now available. CLJ-2843 - Reflective calls to Java methods that take primitive long or double now work when passed a narrower boxed number at runtime (Integer, Short, Byte, Float). Previously, these methods were not matched during reflection and an error was thrown. Java 21 added an overload to the method Thread/sleep in the 1-arity. When upgrading to Java 21, existing Clojure calls to Thread/sleep become reflective, but continue to work. As usual, you can detect reflection with *warn-on-reflection* and address with a type hint (here, ^long ) to choose the desired overload. Previously, passing a Short or Integer value to a reflective call like Thread/sleep that takes a long would not match, that has been corrected.
