Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards: fencer Ryan Choi, swimmer Siobhan Haughey win ‘best of best’

Hong Kong's sports community celebrated its top athletes at the Cathay 2025 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards, where fencing world champion Ryan Choi Chun-yin emerged as the standout performer. Choi, a first-time nominee, was crowned the men’s "best of the best" at the prestigious event held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The ceremony was attended by high-profile officials, including Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration Warner Cheuk Wing-hing, and other notable figures from the government and sports world.

Ryan Choi's triumph at the awards ceremony was a testament to his remarkable achievements in the sport of fencing. Last year, he claimed the men’s foil individual world championship title in Tbilisi, Georgia, a feat that propelled him to the coveted world No. 1 ranking. This year, Choi's exceptional performance and consistent excellence in the sport earned him not only the "best of the best" accolade but also two additional awards during the event.

In addition to Choi's success, the awards ceremony also recognized other outstanding athletes who have made significant contributions to Hong Kong's sports scene. Swimmer Siobhan Haughey, a multiple medalist in international competitions, was also honored at the event. Haughey's exceptional achievements in the pool have solidified her status as one of Hong Kong's most prominent sporting icons.

The Cathay 2025 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards served as a platform to celebrate the hard work, dedication, and talent of athletes who have represented Hong Kong on the global stage. The event highlighted the city's rich sporting heritage and the ongoing commitment to nurturing exceptional talent.

Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration Warner Cheuk Wing-hing and other attendees underscored the importance of recognizing and supporting athletes who have achieved remarkable success. Their presence at the ceremony was a clear signal of the government's support for the sports community and its athletes.

The awards ceremony was not only a celebration of individual achievements but also a reflection of the collective efforts of coaches, support staff, and fans who have contributed to the success of these athletes. It was a reminder of the pivotal role that sports play in fostering unity, inspiration, and pride among Hong Kong residents.

As Hong Kong continues to nurture its sporting talents, the Cathay 2025 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards served as a fitting tribute to the city's commitment to excellence in sports. Ryan Choi's "best of the best" title and Siobhan Haughey's recognition are just a few examples of the remarkable accomplishments that have been achieved by Hong Kong's athletes in recent years. The event not only honored past successes but also inspired future generations to strive for greatness in the world of sports.

Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3 is now available. CLJ-2843 - Reflective calls to Java methods that take primitive long or double now work when passed a narrower boxed number at runtime (Integer, Short, Byte, Float). Previously, these methods were not matched during reflection and an error was thrown. Java 21 added an overload to the method Thread/sleep in the 1-arity. When upgrading to Java 21, existing Clojure calls to Thread/sleep become reflective, but continue to work. As usual, you can detect reflection with *warn-on-reflection* and address with a type hint (here, ^long ) to choose the desired overload. Previously, passing a Short or Integer value to a reflective call like Thread/sleep that takes a long would not match, that has been corrected.
