In May, Dairy Global is hosting its annual "Heat Stress Special," an event designed to bring together key players in the global dairy sector to discuss expert insights, the latest research, and practical solutions to tackle the growing issue of heat stress. This year's edition promises to be a crucial platform for sharing knowledge and strategies to mitigate the impact of rising temperatures on livestock production.

Heat stress is a hidden but powerful disruptor in the dairy industry, affecting both productivity and animal welfare. As global temperatures continue to rise, the challenge of managing heat stress becomes increasingly critical. The event aims to address this issue head-on by providing a forum for experts, researchers, and industry professionals to exchange ideas and best practices.

The "Heat Stress Special" will feature a series of presentations and panel discussions led by renowned experts in the field. These sessions will cover a range of topics, from the biological and physiological effects of heat stress on dairy animals to the latest technological advancements in monitoring and managing heat-related stress. Participants will also explore innovative strategies for improving animal welfare, such as optimizing housing conditions and implementing effective cooling systems.

In addition to the expert-led sessions, the event will provide an opportunity for companies and organizations to showcase their products and services aimed at addressing heat stress. This includes innovative technologies, feed additives, and management practices that can help dairy farmers adapt to the changing climate. By highlighting these solutions, the "Heat Stress Special" aims to inspire and empower the dairy sector to take proactive steps in combating the impacts of heat stress.

One of the key highlights of the event will be the presentation of the latest research on heat stress in dairy animals. Recent studies have revealed that heat stress can lead to a range of negative outcomes, including reduced milk yield, increased mortality rates, and compromised animal health. By understanding these impacts, the dairy industry can develop more effective strategies to protect both animals and production efficiency.

The "Heat Stress Special" will also address the economic implications of heat stress on the dairy sector. Rising temperatures can lead to increased production costs, reduced profitability, and even forced culling of animals. By sharing insights and solutions, the event aims to help dairy farmers and industry stakeholders develop resilient strategies to navigate these challenges.

In conclusion, Dairy Global's "Heat Stress Special" is a vital opportunity for the global dairy sector to come together and address one of its most pressing challenges. With expert insights, cutting-edge research, and practical solutions on offer, the event promises to provide valuable tools and knowledge for dairy professionals looking to stay ahead of the rising temperatures. Don't miss this chance to engage with a global audience and contribute to the ongoing efforts to ensure the sustainability and resilience of the dairy industry in the face of climate change.

A simple way to get more value from metrics
A simple way to get more value from metrics
We spent one day 1 building a system that immediately found a mid 7 figure optimization (which ended up shipping). In the first year, we shipped mid 8 figures per year worth of cost savings as a result. The key feature this system introduces is the ability to query metrics data across all hosts and all services and over any period of time (since inception), so we've called it LongTermMetrics (LTM) internally since I like boring, descriptive, names. This got started when I was looking for a starter project that would both help me understand the Twitter infra stack and also have some easily quantifiable value. Andy Wilcox suggested looking at JVM survivor space utilization for some large services. If you're not familiar with what survivor space is, you can think of it as a configurable, fixed-size buffer, in the JVM (at least if you use the GC algorithm that's default at Twitter). At the time, if you looked at a random large services, you'd usually find that either: The buffer was too small, resulting in poor performance, sometimes catastrophically poor when under high load. The buffer was too large, resulting in wasted memory, i.e., wasted money. But instead of looking at random services, there's no fundamental reason that we shouldn't be able to query all services and get a list of which services have room for improvement in their configuration, sorted by performance degradation or cost savings. And if we write that query for JVM survivor space, this also

Context Engineering for Coding Agents
The number of options we have to configure and enrich a coding agent’s context has exploded over the past few months. Claude Code is leading the charge with innovations in this space, but other coding assistants are quickly following suit. Powerful context engineering is becoming a huge part of the developer experience of these tools. Birgitta Böckeler explains the current state of context configuration features, using Claude Code as an example. moreтАж

What does less protein and nitrogen mean for methane?
Does feeding less protein to cows over a longer period not only reduce nitrogen losses, but also affect methane emissions? Researchers at Wageningen University & Research (WUR) investigated this in a multi-year study with dairy cows, funded by the Vereniging Diervoederonderzoek Nederland (VDN), the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN), and […] The post What does less protein and nitrogen mean for methane? appeared first on Agriland.ie .
