Chinese world No 1 snooker player Bai Yulu hoping more girls will emulate her journey

Chinese snooker world No 1 player Bai Yulu has expressed her hope that her journey will inspire more people to appreciate the sport and encourage more girls to take up the game. In a recent 37-minute interview with state media, the 22-year-old discussed her career trajectory and described herself as still being in a "growth phase." The defending women's world snooker champion referred to herself as a "clumsy bird flying early," attributing her success to hard work and dedication rather than innate genius.

Bai Yulu's rise to the top of the snooker world has been meteoric. She became the youngest player to win the women's world snooker championship in 2021, at the age of 19, and has since maintained her position as the world No 1. Her journey has not been without its challenges, but she has remained steadfast in her commitment to the sport. In the interview, she emphasized the importance of practice and perseverance, stressing that talent alone is not enough to succeed in snooker.

"I think talent is just a small part of the equation," Bai said. "It's the practice and the dedication that really make a difference. I've spent countless hours at the table, refining my skills and learning from my mistakes. That's how I've become the player I am today."

Bai Yulu's ambition extends beyond her own success. She wants to see more girls take up snooker and break down the barriers that have traditionally kept women out of the sport. She believes that snooker has a lot to offer, both in terms of its strategic depth and its rich history, and she hopes her achievements will inspire a new generation of female players.

"Snooker is such a beautiful game," Bai said. "It's not just about skill; it's about strategy, patience, and a bit of luck. I want more girls to discover that charm and give it a try. The sport needs more diversity, and I'm happy to do my part to promote it."

Bai's advocacy for gender equality in snooker is part of a broader trend. In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the need to diversify sports at all levels, and snooker is no exception. Organizations like the World Snooker Federation have been working to increase the number of women's events and to promote the sport to a wider audience.

Bai Yulu's influence is already being felt. Since her rise to prominence, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of young girls taking up snooker in China and around the world. Her message of hard work, dedication, and perseverance has resonated with many, and she hopes it will continue to inspire others.

"I'm just one player," Bai said. "But I believe that every small step we take can make a big difference. If I can inspire even one girl to pick up a cue, then my journey has been worth it."

As Bai Yulu continues to dominate the women's snooker scene, her impact extends far beyond the table. Her journey is a testament to the power of determination and her message of encouragement is a call to action for aspiring players everywhere. With her as a role model, the future of women's snooker looks brighter than ever.

Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3 is now available. CLJ-2843 - Reflective calls to Java methods that take primitive long or double now work when passed a narrower boxed number at runtime (Integer, Short, Byte, Float). Previously, these methods were not matched during reflection and an error was thrown. Java 21 added an overload to the method Thread/sleep in the 1-arity. When upgrading to Java 21, existing Clojure calls to Thread/sleep become reflective, but continue to work. As usual, you can detect reflection with *warn-on-reflection* and address with a type hint (here, ^long ) to choose the desired overload. Previously, passing a Short or Integer value to a reflective call like Thread/sleep that takes a long would not match, that has been corrected.
