Bold decision pays off as Lucky Sweynesse steps out of the shadows for Group Two glory

On a memorable Monday at Sha Tin Racecourse, the connections of Lucky Sweynesse made a bold decision that proved to be a masterstroke. The seven-year-old sprinter, who had been languishing in the shadows for some time, returned to the winner’s enclosure after a two-year absence, securing victory in the Group Two Chairman’s Trophy over 1,600 meters. This triumph marked a significant milestone for the four-time Group One winner, who last claimed a victory on this prestigious track in 2021 when he won the Group Two Sprint Cup (1,200m).

For many, Lucky Sweynesse’s decision to step up in distance might have seemed risky, given his previous successes as a sprinter. However, the connections’ faith in the veteran horse paid off, as he displayed the same flair and determination that had made him a formidable force in the past. The Chairman’s Trophy, a race that tests both speed and stamina, required Lucky Sweynesse to showcase his versatility, and he did not disappoint.

The journey to this victory was not without its challenges. As the years have advanced and new stars like Ka Ying Rising have emerged on the Hong Kong racing scene, Lucky Sweynesse’s prospects have seemed uncertain. Yet, the connections’ belief in his ability to compete at the highest level has been vindicated. This win not only rekindled the passion for the sprinter but also highlighted the importance of giving experienced horses another chance to shine.

The race itself was a thrilling affair, with Lucky Sweynesse showing his experience and tenacity from the start. He settled in a comfortable position early on, conserving his energy for the crucial stretch. As the field rounded the final bend, Lucky Sweynesse began to make his move, swiftly overtaking his rivals and crossing the finish line in a style that drew cheers from the crowd.

Trainer John Smith expressed his delight at the victory, crediting the connections’ decision to give Lucky Sweynesse another shot. “We knew there was still life in him, and today proved that we were right,” he said. “He’s a true champion, and this win is a testament to his heart and spirit.”

The win has undoubtedly boosted the morale of the connections and the racing stable. It serves as a reminder that age is just a number, and experience can often be the deciding factor in a race. For Lucky Sweynesse, this victory represents a new chapter in his illustrious career, proving that he is still a force to be reckoned with on the Hong Kong racing circuit.

As the connections celebrate this hard-fought win, fans and racing enthusiasts alike can take inspiration from Lucky Sweynesse’s story. It is a reminder of the importance of perseverance, belief, and the occasional bold decision that can change the course of a career. For now, Lucky Sweynesse basks in the glory of his latest triumph, ready to face the next challenge with the same determination that has seen him through the years.

Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3
Clojure 1.11.3 is now available. CLJ-2843 - Reflective calls to Java methods that take primitive long or double now work when passed a narrower boxed number at runtime (Integer, Short, Byte, Float). Previously, these methods were not matched during reflection and an error was thrown. Java 21 added an overload to the method Thread/sleep in the 1-arity. When upgrading to Java 21, existing Clojure calls to Thread/sleep become reflective, but continue to work. As usual, you can detect reflection with *warn-on-reflection* and address with a type hint (here, ^long ) to choose the desired overload. Previously, passing a Short or Integer value to a reflective call like Thread/sleep that takes a long would not match, that has been corrected.
