He emphasized that the pre-AI era had seen significant progress, but now a "huge new shift" was on the horizon, one that he felt required a different set of skills and strategies.

During Quincey's tenure, Coca-Cola experimented with AI-generated commercials, which garnered a mix of reactions, including mockery and disgust, but little praise. This experiment may have contributed to his perception of the challenges posed by AI, as well as the need for a fresh approach to marketing and branding in an AI-driven world.

Meanwhile, Doug McMillon, who had been CEO of Walmart since 2014, also stepped down, citing AI as a key factor in his decision. He told CNBC that he wanted to pass the baton to someone "faster" in the face of the AI-driven transformations. McMillon admitted that he could start the next big set of transformations with AI, but he felt he could not finish them.

A year before his resignation, McMillon began contemplating the potential impact of AI on the retail industry, particularly the concept of "AI shopping." He recognized that the rapid pace of change would require new strategies and a more agile leadership team to navigate the challenges posed by AI.

These resignations are part of a broader trend among CEOs who feel that the pace of AI-driven change is outpacing their ability to adapt.
