692 doctors to join Telangana hospitals in major hiring push

Hyderabad: Telangana's public hospitals are set to receive a significant influx of specialist medical staff as the Medical and Health Services Recruitment Board (MHSRB) announced the selection of 692 doctors for key positions across gynaecology, anaesthesia, and paediatrics departments. This development marks a major hiring push by the state government to address the critical shortage of medical professionals in the region.

The recruitment drive, which was notified last year, aimed at filling 1,616 civil assistant surgeon (specialist) posts and 607 assistant professor posts. On April 6, the MHSRB announced the selection of 692 doctors, with 247 posts allocated to gynaecology, 226 to anaesthesia, and 219 to paediatrics. The remaining 924 vacancies are expected to be filled by May, further bolstering the medical workforce in Telangana's public hospitals.

In addition to these appointments, results for 174 assistant professor posts across gynaecology, anaesthesia, paediatrics, and orthopaedics were released two days prior to the announcement. These appointees will also receive their appointment letters on April 7, coinciding with World Health Day. Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha will personally hand over the letters to the selected doctors, highlighting the government's commitment to improving healthcare services in the state.

Since the Congress government assumed power, the Health Department has been actively working to fill vacant posts across various medical and allied health professional categories, including doctors, nursing officers, and laboratory technicians. Over the past two-and-a-half years, a total of 9,572 posts have been filled. With the recent appointments of 692 doctors and the expected results for 2,312 nursing officer posts within the week, the total number of posts filled is set to reach 12,750, according to the MHSRB.

This significant hiring push is a testament to the state government's efforts to address the healthcare challenges faced by Telangana. By strengthening the medical workforce in public hospitals, the government aims to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare services for the state's population. The appointment of specialists in critical areas such as gynaecology, anaesthesia, and paediatrics will undoubtedly have a positive impact on patient care and outcomes.

As the MHSRB continues its recruitment efforts, the government remains focused on addressing the healthcare needs of the people of Telangana. With the recent appointments and the expected filling of remaining vacancies, the state's public hospitals are poised to receive a much-needed boost in their specialist medical staff, ensuring better healthcare services for all.
