In Gunna district, a farmers' workshop was organized to address the challenges faced by farmers due to the excessive use of fertilizers. The workshop, held in the village of Johari in the Bamoria block, aimed to educate farmers about the negative impacts of overusing fertilizers and to promote sustainable agricultural practices. The initiative was taken under the guidance of Collector Shri Kishor Kumar Kanyal, with the participation of Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture Shri Sanjay Kumar Sharma and Tehsildar Shri Devadatt Golia.
The excessive use of fertilizers leads to several problems, including environmental pollution, degradation of soil fertility, increased risk of fires, and adverse effects on human health. The workshop emphasized the importance of managing fertilizer use responsibly and provided farmers with information on how to create compost from crop residues, which can improve soil quality and nutrient content.
During the workshop, an appeal was made to farmers to immediately stop overusing fertilizers. The government's swift action was also highlighted, as a joint team from the Agriculture and Revenue Departments had imposed fines on five farmers in the village of Johari for excessive fertilizer use. Similarly, a farmers' meeting was organized in the village of Endwada by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate to raise awareness among farmers about the need to be cautious in managing fertilizers.
Additionally, officials from the Agriculture Department provided farmers with information on how to prevent fires by using tractors to spray water and filling water tanks. They also advised farmers to be prepared for any emergency situation by keeping a watch around their fields. The workshop also recommended the use of modern agricultural equipment such as rotavators, malchers, and planters, as well as superceder/happier sedders for managing rain-fed crops.
The efforts of the district administration have led to an increase in farmers' awareness about sustainable farming practices and the need to manage fertilizer use responsibly. The workshop provided farmers with the necessary knowledge and tools to adopt eco-friendly agricultural methods, ensuring the long-term health of the soil and the environment.
